This beloved chain is a thing of cultish devotion

If this doesn't make you hungry, nothing will.

If you’re lucky enough to live in one of the states where there’s a location of Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits, then there’s most likely a soft spot in your heart for it. But even if you can’t go a week without seeking out your biscuit fix, we bet that there’s a lot you didn’t know about this Charlotte-based legend.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits (Slideshow)

Bojangles’ was founded in 1977 by a pair of entrepreneurs named Jack Fulk and Richard Thomas; Fulk operated a successful Hardee’s franchise in North Carolina and Thomas served as president of operations for soon-to-be-competitor KFC. The duo sold the chain in 1981, and it continued to rapidly expand as it went through a handful of owners over the years; today, it’s owned by private equity firm Advent International, and there are more than 600 locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

If you live in one of these places, you probably already know why Bojangles’ is so beloved. Its Cajun-seasoned chicken is delivered fresh daily to each location, where it’s marinated for 12 hours and breaded by hand through an eight-step process. Fresh biscuits are handmade and come out of the oven every 20 minutes. Along with fried chicken and biscuit sandwiches, the menu also includes barbecue pork sandwiches; salads; fixins including sausage-kicked dirty rice, mac and cheese, slow-cooked pintos, and even grits; and desserts including fried sweet potato pie and iced dessert biscuits.

In the world of fast-food fried chicken, everyone has a favorite chain, be it KFC, Popeyes, or Bojangles’. Fried chicken and biscuits are Southern staples, and you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who thinks that Bojangles’ doesn’t do them right.
